View Full Version : The THIRD UWPhoto Chat U/W Photo Contest!

 Ok photogs, this one is going to be tough. Just for fun, the subject of this contest is ONLY INVERTEBRATES!
That means no fish, mammals, sharks, divers, reptiles, etc. Only invertebrates such as but not limited to:
Reefs, corals, anemones, sea stars, etc.
The clever biologists among us will undoubtedly ask: "What about tunicates?" I don't care if they have a notochord in the juvenile phase and someone decided they are chordates. We gotta put our foot down somewhere. I say they are inverts! They are allowed!:D
Deadline for entry is: March 4th, 2007.
Judging: March 5-17.
Winner announced sometime thereafter!
The winner shall receive (drum roll please.....)
1. Fame and fortune on the front page of Underwater Photo Chat for 2 months!
2. A surprise gift care package from me. I'll clean out my office and send some "cool stuff"! I'm not telling what yet, because I don't know. But it will probably contain some books, films, maybe some rare, collectable junk, I mean stuff! ;)
3. A date with Salma Hayek or Tom Cruise!*
So start posting those submissions in this thread!! Best of luck!
Jonathan

Here's a definite invertebrate. I call this image 'Sun and Moon':

Yes, you're right about the film part. I shot this image using my Nikonos V with Fuji Velvia 100 ISO film. This dive took place at Breakers Reef in WPB. During my hang at the end of the dive there were several of these translucent moon jellyfish pulsating overhead, so I looked up and began snapping away! I don't usually have film left at the end of my dive, but on this day I was lucky. :) The lens I used was a 20mm Nikkor at f/22. I also used a Sea & Sea YS-90 strobe set on manual at 1/2 power.

Welcome to the forum, Robyn, and thanks for participating. I think Jonathan is having a sunball envy flashback (so to speak) from his film days. -Clay

I love what I'm seeing on this site and I'm happy about being a new member!
There's nothing like the Nikonos for capturing those W/A sunball shots. It's an oldie, but still a goodie as far as I'm concerned.
Although I've just purchased my first DSLR (Canon 5D), I vow to still take the trusty Nikonos for a dunk from time to time. :) Robyn
