Hi everybody. Here's a tessellated blenny from Aug. 12. I'm curious to see if I can get this to work:

Stunning. The right side almost seems too blury but very impressive pic.

Hey, thanks. I have to give credit to the blenny and the encrusting sponge for the beautiful colors. The setup was: Nikon N90s/105mm in an Ikelite housing, dual Ike 100s, Provia 100 film, camera in manual mode f22 @ 1/250th, both srobes on TTL and positioned close together on each side of the lens port barrel and aimed directly at the subject, Ike mini-C light for precise auto focus. If you can see my tiny avatar, that's me with this exact setup and strobe position. -Clay

Clay,
That shot is absolutely fantastic! I love the way the out of focus background help push the viewer to the sharp fish face. A very good example of keeping the negative space from overpowering the subject. Nicely done!

You are all too kind, although I was pretty pleased with that entire roll. Louisiana rig pilings are usually great macro areas. The most common blennies are seaweed blennies. While they lack the colors of the tessellateds, they have lots of character. See http://claycoleman.tripod.com/id32.htm We also sometimes find what we call "lightbulb" anemones--about the size of an old silver dollar. Very little taxonomy has been done on Gulf anemones, and while the rig anemones are fairly common, they are possibly undescribed. Have a look at http://claycoleman.tripod.com/id148.htm -Clay
