Hey Everyone,
I am heading to St. Vincent in Sept. Anyone been there and have any suggestions for dive sites, recommendations for anything in general? I have never been before.

Thanks

Jonathan

Have never been there myself, but I only hear good things about the lovely macro subjects there. Please post your experience diving there for us all who are now stuck here at work.

Yes, I have wanted to go there for a long time too...because it's one of the only places in the Caribbean where people see striated frogfish. (For some strange reason, I have a desire to shoot one of those in the Caribbean where they are rare!) I have heard it's a great macro place so I guess I'll find out.

Even though I was told that there had been no sightings of Striated Frogfish here in over a year, we found one yesterday. Boy was I psyched!! For once I had the right lens at the right time. I decided NOT to take the 105 mm for the really small stuff and instead took the 60. Good timing.

Unfortunately, between the green northerly Orinoco Flow and the recent storms, the viz here is about 20 feet of pea soup green murk right now. Which sucks. It was fine for macro, but I'm trying to shoot wide angle for the next few days. Ugh.

Today I did aerials, and I could actually see the blue water pushing the green water out of the reefs, which was really neat. I hope this means that by the end of the week we might have 50 feet of viz. That would be nice. (Man, I love shooting aerials. One of these days I'm going to have to get a pilot's license.)

Now I'm on Bequia (next to St. Vincent) and these are some of the most beautiful, lush and healthy reefs I have ever seen in the Caribbean. Unfortunately, to see them, you need to be close this week!

More updates to come.

Here's a couple cool ones.

The first one shows the green orinoco water being pushed out (towards the camera) by the incoming blue water. This is down in the Tobago Cays (Grenadines) not up where we are diving. I wish the water was getting this blue around Bequia and St. Vincent, but the flow is not as fast around the larger islands.

The next one is just a nice reef shot from the Tobago Cays.

The last is a view of Bequia harbor with St. Vincent in the background.

Cool stuff, Jonathan! I've never been to St. Vincent and I've never seen a striated frogfish. I'd like to do both. -Clay

Here's one from today. Shooting wreck of the Romark in 20-30 foot viz.

The reefs here are very nice. St. Vincent is known for macro, but the coral is quite lush and healthy and there are tons of fish.
