Hi,

This is quite a basic question, but I just wanted to know how everyone looks after their kit after a dive? I meticulously wash my new Ikelite housing in fresh water and make sure it is perfectly dry before putting into my garage until the next adventure.

Should I be putting lube on the O ring and how often? Should it be stored open or closed? Should I remove the O ring if for example I dont use it for a few months over the winter? What else should I be doing?

My kit is new and has only been on a couple of dives, but want to make sure I get into good habits so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Andrew

One thing I will do is that if long time without using, i will remove O rings and place them to mini-grip plastic with silicon oil.

Long ago when I bought my first Ikelite housing, they used to offer a cheap plastic "suitcase" for it. It's not beefy enough to be a checked piece of luggage, but it protects the housing nicely when I pack it INSIDE one of my plastic totes that I travel with. I also store the housing in it at home.

Please keep in mind that the "o-rings" that are on the back of the housing in compression are actually gaskets, not o-rings, and do not require lube. Only the port mounting o-ring slides against another surface as you install the port, so is a true o-ring requiring lube. (And the control knob shafts should be lubed time to time after cleaning).

Thanks guys for your comments, do you store them closed or in two parts when not in use?

I store them together but with o-rings removed to keep them from getting permanently squashed.
