Ok, so the Gulf of Mexico is not quite the Caribbean, but as close as I could get. The oil rigs are well known for the habitat they provide for fish, but loggerheads sometimes swing by to chomp the sponges on the pilings. Here are recent shots:

Is this a reptilian smile, or what?

Nikon D80, ISO 100, Tokina 12-24mm, twin Ike 125s at full power with diffusers on, f8, 1/25th (it was late afternoon and getting dark at depth, the slow shutter speed caused some motion blur which I like) -Clay

Wow, great shots! It's so hard to capture turtle behavior (they seem to just sit around a lot) and this is really interesting stuff.

We need to work on your artsy-fartsy speak. Let me re-write that for you:

Nikon D80, ISO 100, Tokina 12-24mm, twin Ike 125s at full power with diffusers on, f8, 1/25th. The motion blur was intentionally created with a slow shutter speed coupled with strobe to help show the action. The late afternoon light made achieving this look easier. -Clay

Yeah, that's what I meant to say. We'll add "artsy-fartsy" lexicon to Volume 10 of things I need to work on! When I got back on the boat I kicked myself for forgetting that I could crank up the ISO (I never think of that until it's too late), but when I saw the pics on a big screen I'm glad I didn't. -Clay
