View Full Version : We need a logo!

It has been brought to my attention by several clever and insightful members here that we need to do some marketing and to do that we need a logo of some type to put on stickers, t-shirts, etc.
I can take a picture, but I can't design a logo to save my life. A graphic designer I am not.
Anyone here want to take a whack at a logo? I'm making a contest of sorts. Post logos in this thread. The creator of the best logo which becomes the new UWPhotochat logo will win a complete set of my books. (Yep, all six of them!) If it takes a really long time, you will get 7 since #7 is in the pre-production phase right now. :D Hopefully it won't take that long.
The logo should be in a square or round format so it can be put on a variety of products as well as the site. (A banner style logo would work for the site, but could be tricky for anything else).
It must use original artwork so we don't get sued. You must be willing to give us full rights to use it for free forever. (Hey, this is a low budget operation!) You get books and fame on uwphotochat as well as a free t-shirt if we ever make any!
I'm making this up as a go along....anything I forgot?

Is this something like what you had in mind?
-its round
-its simple
-its blue
-its stolen (I hope you dont mind me using you photo, Clay!)
I think Clays photo could work very well, but maybe the rest still needs some work...

I would think we need a .com on it and maybe Jonathan's Hammerhead? He could get the domain UWPC.com and direct the traffic here! People loves Sharks and Dolphins the most! Skeletons come next LOL!!!!

I must say I like it! Maybe too many colours to be used as such for some applications, but still great! Well done!

I like it as well! You might think of doing it in cut out form as well. It will also drop two of the colors. We need to tap computer talent to write HTML code the will include referral information back to our membership identifier. So you can track the source of where the click trough came from! This way the whole thing can be put in code and distributed for flash pages and click troughs. Then it will be off to the races and we all can start to expand the readership of the board and promote it better.;) :D

Hey. It is a great logo. Very easy to recognize and it gets the message out there, that it is a lot of fun to shoot pictures underwater.
Is there a copyright on the logo or can I make a sticker for my car ( a friend is a graphic designer and works at a place where they make these kind of things.)
Thank your for a great logo and an even greater site.

Allan,
EcoDiving designed and owns the copyright to the artwork. He has granted us the right to use it to advertise this site. You should ask him about making a sticker for the car. I don't think he would mind, as that is what it is for. If you make some stickers, maybe we should get a whole bunch made and give them out!!

I will ask him.
If it is possible I can make several stickers and ship them to those who would like one. Must say that they are not free, the film/paper that makes the sticker is not cheap. I will ask my friend for a price. There is also shipment to people around the world, but that should not be a problem, the stickers should not weigh that much.
What size should the sticker be?

Allan,
I would be willing to cough up for a "press run" of stickers. I've had small stickers printed in the past and it was actually very inexpensive. See what it would cost to get a few hundred done. Then we can stick them everywhere!

Thanx to you all for the nice compliments on my design. I like the idea of producing stickers and T-shirts. But originally the design is made for this website so I like Jonathan as well to give his 'ok' before people start printing. All products do have to have some kind of Uwphotochat.com official status!

I agree with Ecodiving, the stickers and other material should be the same. Therefore some guidelines should be made for the use of the logo.
I mentioned that i could make stickers of the logo, because I think it is a great forum for Uw-photographers, especially for divers like me, that is new to the world for Uwphoto. So I would like to promote the site in the "real" world, and the easiest way is a sticker on my car. Here in Denmark we have to drive to every divesite, and there are usually other divers at the same site, so a sticker on the car would be noticed.
I have no problem in shipping the stickers or other material to members in Europa, I could send a bunch to the USA which could be distributed be a member "over there".
If I have an OK from both Ecodiving and Jonathan I could make a preview print that I could send for approval.

I wil get to work and have a few test prints done. Then we can se what happens.
Ecodiving - Do you have an original file of the logo. The grapic designer says that best quality is made by using original file when printing on a digital printing machine.

Just got back from the Red Sea. Great liveaboard trip.
The test prints of the logo are not good. The black lines that make up the tentacles and outer shape of the octo does not show clearly enough. That makes the sticker confusing to look at. The color of the octo is to dominating when printed on to the shiny paper that makes the sticker.
The logo looks great on screen but not on paper. Sorry

I'll work on it to make it more suitable for printing purpoces. Please have some patience because I'm busy with my job. I'll get to it in a few weeks!
