Hey Guys

Does anyone know of the closing of Thistlegorm. I have heard af rumor that it will be closed from the 15. november to the 15. december. The reason should be that they are placing concrete blocks around the wreck for the dive-boats to anchor up.

Going to Red Sea November 1. so I should be in the clear.

Best regards

Allan

I think that its a great idea, because there can be up to 50 boats at the same time. In Brothers islands part of Aiwa-wreck was dropped to depht, because of anchoring! Anyhow i havent heard anything about closing time...

If I have understood it correct another wreck nearby has been damaged by to many anchoring lines. So in order to prevent this happening to Thistlegorm and other wrecks they will put these concrete blocks around the wrecks. I also think it is a great idea.

Here in the north of Denmark we have limestone-corals at about 10 meters depth. It is absolutely forbidden to anchor up within 300 meters of the formations. We would like to have made some anchoring points, but it is not easy due to conservation laws ( dont know if it is correct english ).

Lets keep the underwater sites free from damage from both diver and diveboat.

Hi,

I have just read an article in a dive magazine and you are right the Thistlegorm is closed from the 15th November to 15th December to put eight mooring stations for diving and also to drill holes in the boat to let divers exhaled air escape as this can accelerate the erosion of the ships structure.

I was diving on the Thistlegorm the last week in December. It is now open.

I don't know if the new moorings will help, perhaps they will keep day boats from tying directly to the wreck.
