Wow, thanks Jonathan. An opportunity to have the first post on the board. What an honour. Perhaps an introduction is in order. First certified in 1993, I became a PADI instructor in 1995 and have been teaching diving ever since. My first attempt at underwater videography occurred in March of 2002 when I took my 12 year old son diving on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica; a proud parent recording his child's first fin kicks in the open ocean. Lessons were learned the hard way, by trial and error, but bit by bit the video quality improved. Hopefully this board will provide a forum for all those interested in underwater images, both still and video, to share their experiences and their knowledge for the benefit of all. Kudos to you Jonathan for providing the forum.

Thanks David! I hope this forum will blossum into something magnificent! Beware, your video bug gets expensive! :)

I am still having a few problems with the site....the thread and post counts are not displaying right. Hope to have it solved in a day or so.

Underwater videography can be described as a hollowed out piece of marine grade aluminum with gl*** covering both ends into which you pour money. Lots of money. My first camera and housing was a SONY TRV-530 digital 8 with Amphibico Dive Buddy housing. It did not take long to realize that I was limited by the capabilities of the equipment. So, I upgraded to a SONY VX-2000 and Amphibico VH-2000 housing. This kept me happy for a while but then SONY brought out their HD cameras and an upgrade to the HVR-Z1U and Amphibico Phenom housing was required. After a trip to Roatan in January of this year I realized that my editing computer was not capable of handling HD input so a computer upgrade was also necessary along with the requisite software upgrades. Now I am looking for places to go where I can use all of this gear.

Hi David - after having dove with you first in Cozumel in 2004, you've certainly progressed a long way with your videography. I'm looking forward to your future productions. See you in the Bahamas next week!
