Some of you know that I have been working on a feature-length documentary about life on a coral reef for a long time. It is now finished being edited and is going off to the scorer for a spring 2008 release. The trailer is up on the website for those who might be interested.

This is not your average nature film, as you will see when it is done. I do not want to give anything away though.

Enjoy the trailer...

Very nice! I look forward to seeing the whole film sometime soon. Will it be aired on television or shown in theatres in Canada?

By all accounts... it does contain Canadian content n'est pas?

Cheers!
Daniel :)

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments. It is a feature-length (80 minutes) documentary designed for theatrical distribution and that is what I jope will happen, but we have a long way to go to find that distributor. First we will finish the film then take it to all the important film festivals. We are searching for the right narrator now, and the composer has started working on the score.

I am biased, but it is a very powerful film. We are planning a premiere in Boston at the New England Aquarium Imax Theatre in the spring.

I'll post details as they come.

Best,
Jonathan

I am looking forward with eager anticipation to the release of your film. There are some absolutely stellar shots in the trailer. How much time did you have to spend underwater to catch so many different fish "doing lunch"? Awesome!

David,
The film took about 10 weeks of shooting, separated into 3 different trips (2 in the Philippines and 1 in Malaysia) over 15 months. Our film crew of 9 people (me, my assistant, the production manager and 6 volunteer assistant divers) did over 1,000 dives between us. I personally did over 200 dives in production of the film plus the whale sharks, which were done free diving. We had a big shot list and managed to find and film most of it.

Pierre, who was the second unit director and who shot a couple of the sequences for the film at a 4th location in the Philippines (Malapascua) while the main crew continued to work at Batangas, also shot a behind-the-scenes film which should be quite interesting. It will not be done for a while because we don't need it until the DVD is to be released, which will be a while. (Theatres come first).
