View Full Version : The official FISH FACE photo contest thread!

OK, everyone,
Jukka thinks its time to kick Mark's pic off the winners' circle and replace it with a new one, so it's time for a new photo contest. First one of 2008!
We were going to do a fish face contest in the last thread, but the thread got really long and out of control.
You must submit only ONE picture per user to this thread. So pick your best shot and submit it here. Submissions are open for 2 weeks! Then we judge!
Pick carefully and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Jonathan
P.S. The usual rules apply....you can't win more than once a year so if you have won a contest here in the past year you are not eligible. If you win, you get fame and glory....and not a hell of a lot more than that!! OK, I'll throw in a signed book (http://www.jonathanbird.net/publishing.htm) of your choice.

Good that we have action really from the beginning of this year!
Even we broke the level of membership 400 our group is rather small and I propose you to think if we have any limitations to participation to have lot of material and high level!
So everybody lets make this competion worth of good year 2008, take part!
Anyhow here is my candidate:

I oppose! We should have the limitations on and have 400 contests / year, so I could win!
I think this is the best fish face I've got so far... Oh well 399 more contests and its my turn! :p

I don't know if its cheating for a judge to make recommendations, but Jukka, I think your blurry background frogfish shot is better!

Thank Jonathan!
You put me to difficult situation;)
It's opening actually question that "How you/others are evaluating pics" That is so interesting question that I will open own thread for that!
These are also placed to finnish site ( blurry one and sharp with strong colors ) and audience have given better points to sharp/colorfull one.
I have always been bad to evaluate my own pics...but I put the question like in the case its entering to opening page which one have more message?
To me the answer was that new one coming to UWphotochat and opening first page and seeing "fasten your seatbelts you will get hell of the ride here is better"...so don't shoot me when I changed my candidate;)

Jukka,
You should start a thread for that discussion as it would be interesting. I am a terrible editor of my own work as well. Most people are, but remember that your opinion is worth about the same as everyone else's!

Wow, some great shots here! The judging just got much more difficult. This is going to be a tough one to judge!!
Jukka,
Clay is a moderator, a judge and a professional photographer...which means it is probably better for him to stay out of the contest!

Ok, folks, that'll do it for the fish face photo contest entries! The contest is now closed. Since Jonathan is currently being wined and dined in the Caribbean and checking out his new D300 system, I have the unenviable task of picking the finalists, and I'll post them with a way to vote soon. Please don't get upset if your entry doesn't make the final cut. Jonathan and I are looking at ways to allow photos from this thread (and others) to be automatically entered in future contests. So, hold on and keep watching--the finalists will be selected soon! -Clay
