In this digital age, if anything will keep a few rolls of film in the bag, it's this handy little setup. Here's my frequent dive buddy and excellent shooter David Breidenbach doing his thing, shot, of course, with my own Nik/15mm rig.

Hey man, the Nik 5 and 15 mm lens is still one of the best Big Animal rigs in the universe. It's small, it's tack sharp to the corner wide open, and makes beautiful images!! I'm not selling mine. I still drag them out every once in a while.

But I have to say....I am being lured by the dark side. Brandon Cole (where are ya Brandon?) told me a while back that once I tried digital I would be hooked and I have to say he is right.

How I wish I could make use of the 15 mm lens on a digital rig. I still have a couple of these set-up but like Jonathan it sees little use. I do agree that it wails on the biggies. I still take it on most boat trips just in case I run across 30 or 40 tons of blubber swimming about.

it also still excels on CFWA work, and sun bursts!

cheers

I'm teetering on the precipice of the digital abyss, and I've very much enjoyed my digital cameras for topside use, but when the sea is up, the current is ripping, or when diving from a large boat with clumsy boarding, I still think I'll be opting for the little NIk. Possibly some lamentable last words, but I'm defiinitely keeping mine.

As digital becomes the mainstream, these cameras and lenses are becoming very affordable--especially the Nik V with the Sea & Sea 15mm (which was the lens used in the initial shot for this thread). Add a cost-efficient but capable strobe such as an Ike 100a and you have a professional-quality rig at entry level cost. Something to consider for photographers who don't have the opportunity to shoot very much but who want good results when they do.

On the other hand, I found myself short on film for a departure this weekend and had to cough up $10 per roll for Fuji Proviaf 100 at the local camera store. Yikes. -Clay

Clay,
I have around 20 rolls of film in the fridge...want it before it goes bad?

Now you tell me. Seriously, thanks a million for the offer, but I think I'm ok. -Clay

Seriously, I tried some digital on my last dive, and I am back to my Nik V and dual strobes.

I don't see the attraction, the shutter lag was terrible, and the lighting was worse with what I tried.

Later tonight I will post the last shot I got with my Nik V and a 16mm lens. Shark! At range of like 2 ft.
