Well everyone...you all have been posting great pictures and so it's time to vote on the finalists. As you may remember....the way this photo contest worked is that Clay and I selected finalists from all over the website. There is no theme to this one....we just selected stuff that grabbed our eyes. Initially we were going to narrow it to just 5 finalists, but well, there were too many shots, so we narrowed it to 8, which was difficult. So here they are in no particular order...and yes, there are a lot of Jukka shots. He has posted a lot more pictures than anyone else on the site and has dominated the selections in this contest! So please vote! We will keep the voting open until April 22nd (2 weeks)!

The finalists are:

1. dbh's cowfish:

2. Tarczy's Tiger shark:

3. Alcina's mantis shrimp:

And the last finalist, Jukka's Dancing Remoras!

Now get the vote out! We have got much better choices here than the upcoming presidential election!

Great photo, but it makes me think of a Conga line...

Alcinas mantis shrimp seems to have disappeared?

Tough vote, I can say! I ended up torn between two photos, and when I finally made up my mind I found that they had so far gathered 83% of the votes between them...

Edit: Mantis is back again

They are all great pictures, the problem was deciding which one to vote for!

Well, AndoMan is the winner by only two votes! He wins a copy of my new book Creatures of the Deep Blue (http://www.jonathanbird.net/deep_blue_book.htm) which he will have to wait a while for....until I get some copies! He also gets fame and glory in the uwphotochat.com "Hall of Fame". :D

For the next photo contest....we need to come up with some other prize.

So Big Gongratulations, AndoMan, your picture was fabulous and the best one won!

There were also other good candidates ( not speaking of mine ), but only one can win!

Wow, what can I say. There were some great shots in this thing and I really appreciate those who participated. Thanks Jonathan and I really look for to the book arriving. But, remember, we can squeeze of photos all day but in the end, it's all about the critters. :) I look forward to seeing you all next year with the sharks. Steve,
You are now in the Hall of Fame (http://www.uwphotochat.com/photo_winners.htm) and you can expect your book in a few weeks (I hope!) when my shipment arrives, hot off the press!

Would you be able to give us information on the camera rig and exposure on that image? (Your camera, housing, kind of strobes, etc.) I would like to add it to the information provided with the image in the Hall of Fame.

Thanks!

Jonathan

Congratulations to AndoMan (Steve).

Great shot!!! :D

If I'm not mistaken, that was shot with a Canon EOS 5D (a full-frame sensor camera).

Yes Mark, it was a Canon 5D, Canon 17-35 in a Subal housing with Ikelite strobes. 1/200 at f10. I was trying to shoot the light rays breaking through the surface and this stinkin' shark swam into the frame!! As Marty constantly tells me, even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometime. Ando
