Greetings all,

Here are some shot's I've taken with my setup (no strobes unfortunately).

This pair of bicolor damselfish was taken in Cozumel. It required a lot of patience on my part.

Here's another, unfortunately I have not been able to identify the subject. It was taken in Cozumel as well. Hopefully someone can help identify the subject.

There are many more, however, I think it would be prudent to share only a couple at a time.

Comments are welcomed.

Cheers!
Daniel :)

Nice job of staying with those damsels until you got the shot you wanted, Daniel. I'm sure you've heard this before, but the addition of a strobe would improve both shots immensely by producing more natural colors, giving the main subjects some texture, and helping to separate the main subject from the background.

I've been staring at your second shot for awhile, Paul Humann book in hand, and I'm still stumped. The tail and prominent second half of an apparent two-part dorsal fin looks like some sort of triggerfish or durgon. However, the masked face and the long pectoral fin doesn't seem to fit. Anyone else have any ideas? -Clay

Looks to me like a Dusky Damselfish.

I'm puzzled too, wondering if what is throwing everyone off is the subjects orientation in the water. If my memory serves me correctly, it was swimming horizontally following the contour of the bottom by approximately 5 inches or so.

It can be frustrating when it comes to identifying marine life. I wish I had taken more shots from different angles. Oh well... all part of the learning curve.

If anyone else has an idea of what it might be, please chime in. All opinions are appreciated.

Cheers!
Daniel

Love the shot of the Damsel fish (Warriors of the Reef) and - yes - the addition of a flash would improve the shot immensely.

One of my guiding philosophies has always been "No Fish Butts." :o
