A couple of weeks ago I managed to tag on a few days break in Tioman Island after being in Signapore on business and have only now just managed to have time to have a good look at them.
It was a good chance to take my Ikelite setup on its second outing (also with a new 60mm Macro lens) and I was pleased with the improvement, but would be grateful of further help and comments to try to improve further for the next outing... :D
Thanks
Andrew

Absolutely great bunch of pics!
What were the camera settings you were using?

Andrew,
Most of them look a tad overexposed. Are you shooting TTL or manual? Do you read your histograms underwater?

Jukka - I was mainly playing around with either Shutter or Aperture Priority on the camera to see what happened and to learn a bit more by experimenting. On this setting it automatically sets the other setting. I was also shooting in RAW which was a new one for me.
Jonathan - I was using TTL apart from a few which looked very overexposed which I then cranked down to a minimum. I only started to use the histogram after I shared the last dive with a guy with the same setup who gave me some pointers including the use of histograms (most of the time it was just me and the guide!) It might also be due to me 'tinkering' with the pictures on my laptop (which has only an 11" screen) to make them look good on my screen?

Some of the things you can correct with lightroom or photoshop specially when you are shooting RAW. White balance, levels, blacks, contrast, colours etc might need some correction.
Actually I am using nearly always full manual settings ( it needs time and lot of shots to get familiar with your camera and strobe ).
Still I am saying that your pics are good, but there is always things you can do better in photographing...it would be not so fun if every pic you are taking is the most perfect one...theory don't be afraid of that:p

Thanks Jukka and Daniel, the clownfish is also my favourite of the trip.
Jukka, thats the next thing to learn... Photoshop!!! I am trying to take it all in and am doing plenty of reading at the moment to see how everything works, lenses, positions of strobes, etc... far better than 6 months ago when most of the settings were on automatic!! I am enjoying the challenge...
Do you use full manual settings on your camera and on your strobes?

It debends on situation and I vary the settings. If you have fast moving objects like we had during last tiger safari I use TTL and fast checking the result trough histogram or/and LCD I might reduce power from TTL adjustment in Ike housing control panel. Macro area I often use manual 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 settings...pics tends to be often partly overexposed.
