Most "spearing" type mantis shrimp are dull colored. Lembeh breaks ALL the rules here.

This piece of 1" PVC pipe had a baby mantis living in it.

Great Andrew...one basic truth in UW-photogaphing is that two objects in same picture is more impressive than one works here and the picture gets "longer look".

I think that the first one with two objects which you can identify is better even quality of second one is better.

Great shots Andrew! How did you get the grouper to hold still? (Is there some rope outside the frame?) ;)

Thanks Jonathan, Well don't advertise this, but my secret is to buy a grouper from the fish market that morning... take it to the shrimps and voila no problem with it moving! If you can pick up a couple of dead shrimps to work with... even better ;)

Seriously I was really surprised it didn't move as they are normally fairly skittish and I was pretty close to it with my 60mm lens. I was just moving very slowly praying that it did not move off, maybe it was just overdue on a service... Those pictures have only had a tiny bit of cropping on to make them central on the frame.

thanks Andrew!
I think composition could be better, but I'll have to wait until next year to give it a try again :(

maybe I'll start a new thread, It would be nice to get some feedback/ critique on my pictures,
since they're my first try with a DSLR and I've only been showing them to non-divers..
