I use an old (small) Ikelite dome port with a Nikon N65 and 24 and 20mm AF nikon lenses.....should I set the lens on AF? Is there ever a time when manual focus is better? Often times with the 20mm, I can't get close enough to fill the frame with the subject cause it's SOO wide, so I've gone to a 24mm but I love the 20.
The problem seems to be that if I want to get REALLY close to a subject, sometimes the AF will not allow the camera shutter to trigger....in such a case would I be better off with manual focus so I could focus closer than the virtual image distance of about a foot? I used to shoot a MF Minolta with a Rokkor 20mm and I could manually focus it when I pulled way in close- I thought that the AF Nikon would be easier with its AF, but I think I have given up a useful feature of MF......does anyone use their superwides on manual focus, and why/how?
Thanks!
