Hi Everyone,
A quick shout out to let you know that I'll be speaking at the Explorer's Club "Sea Stories (http://www.explorers.org/calendar/view_entry.php?id=9851&date=20081115)" day on November 15th at 1 PM in NY.
The event is held at 46 East 70th street (between Madison and Park – south / downtown side of street), New York City. Tudor brick building. 212-628-8383
I will also be doing a booksigning of my new book Creatures of the Deep Blue (http://www.jonathanbird.net/deep_blue_book.htm).
Hope to see some of you there.
Best,
Jonathan

I took a look at their website. What a cool club, and how can I have not heard of it before!?
(or maybe I have, but just haven't registered it.. )

They are very prestigious and well-known. Members include just about every explorer you have ever heard of since Sir Edmund Hillary.
Should be a fun weekend in NYC!

Clay, not a member, but have been invited to join and my sponsor is none other than David Doubilet. How cool is that?
We just got back and had a great time. What an amazing headquarters and building they have in NYC. We spent the whole day hanging out with David Doubilet and Jennifer Hayes. Great people! For such an incredibly accomplished guy, David is quite humble (and damn funny). I have to admit though, I was a little nervous when I realized that I had to get up and give a slide show in front of him! It was like giving a Jedi demonstration in front of Yoda. :)

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate that extremely cool! I assume that you will pursue it. I've always wanted to know somebody in The Explorer's Club! -Clay

I guess what Clay means is that on a scale of 1 - 10, being a member of The Explorers Club would be an eleven!!!
I second that notion!!
Hangin' out with Doubilet? Well . . . he's just another in a bunch of us underwater photographer types. :p

Well, once I'm a member I'll sponsor you guys!
We might ruin the club though. ;)
I'll post some pics later...I couldn't find the point and shoot (I mean digital compact ;)) to download some pics, and I called Christine....she has it in her bag at work.

A few shots!
First, me, Christine and Kate (public relations from EM Books) on the left at the Explorer's Club headquarters in NYC.
Next, Christine, me, David Doubilet and Jennifer Hayes afterwards. Great fun!

I am envious. What's that thing around your neck in some of the photos? I'd love a sponsorship (do they have a redneck coonass section?), but I'd settle for a tour. -Clay

Clay,
Go to the website and give it a read. The big problem is that once you get in you have to pay the DUES, which ain't cheap!
That thing around my neck....well....I try not to wear them too often but I felt that I should try to look nice giving a presentation for the Explorer's Club!
