Great day with the manatees today. Tomorrow looks iffy for weather. The word down here is that there are more manatees in Crystal River and the Homosassa River than any time in the past 10 years. I'll show a few which are pretty raw out of the camera and edited on this laptop, which is not very reliable exposure-wise. -Clay

I noticed the difference of quality of pic when looking them witm Mac or PC.
We have discussed this subject also earlier.
I don't know if you have edited them with MAC or PC, but with PC colours are much stronger and darker...with mac totality looks like more natural.
Anyhow great creatures and great pics...just enjoy and hope the weather is allowing more pics.
Did you have your D-300 already in work?

Well, we awoke Thursday to low clouds and steady mist and rain. We had planned to spend another morning with the manatees and leave at noon, but we decided to forego those plans and head back home. We broke into better weather about an hour's drive north of Crystal River. I'll bet the good weather would have reached Crystal River about the time we would have had to leave had we stayed. Still, I'd much rather have one great day than several so-so ones. I heard bar talk that a new count had been made and the population was up significantly overall--not just in Crystal River and the Homosassa. The worry now (if we simply must worry) is that the increased population will overrun the food supply.
Jukka: Yes, the photos (the ones I previously posted look dark and green on my regular monitor--I'll post links when I add to my web site) were taken with the D300 and Tokina 12-24 with +2 diopter. The better shots were taken between 8:30 and 9:30 in the head springs at 3 Sisters. I was shooting aperture priority, f5.6, ISO 400, zero exposure compensation.
Jonathan: The POS did fine. Broke a shear pin for no good reason when cruising the Homosassa in the afternoon in a steady 20+ knot wind, which got my pants wet when I had to hop in to fix it.

Are you happy with your D-300.

Jukka: Yes, I'm happy with the D300. I've been shooting it quite a bit at ducks ( http://claycoleman.tripod.com/id440.htm ). The CMOS definitely makes a difference in color and highlights.
Here are a couple more from the trip:

These are having more natural colours.
Reflections are always somehow impressive.
This little sand cloud in first one gives speed into pic.
What is this duck...beautiful colours...are you also "birdman":D
