I decide to open the wetsuit season today and went for a 37 minute dive in 7 degree water. Felt ok, other than my hands started feeling cold after 30 minutes.

I was eager to get into water again as this was also just my second dive with dslr. So a 'sure' location with plenty of rowboat wreck it was..

I also found evidence of finnish national sport. After heavy drinking you chase your family with an axe and finally drown in a lake:

and a baby burbot having lunch:

Summer has came when solisti takes his wetsuit.:)

Excellent colours in all pictures and good shooting angle with photos.

Solisti, I am really happy to see remarkable development of your pics...it is not coming just because of new DSLR...there are nice compositions with colours with right WB...I feel we will get some top shots from you.

Maybe you have studied here in UW-photochat...and then hit the result to table:D ;)

Hi Solisti, great pics what lens are you using on your new setup? 7 degrees... wow how thick is that wetsuit?!

Andrew

PS, its always nice to have a story in the pictures so very amusing about the drinking and axe which I assume is normal in Finland? Maybe they also took the boat out first...

Nice photos, Solisti! I like the colours in the axe photo! But 7 degrees in a wetsuit? Brrr...

Love the bow images . . . phenomenal. Such a sense of drama and mystery.

I'm sure you meant 7 degrees Celsius . . . which translates to 45 degrees Fahrenheit . . . which is still pretty damned colddddd!

I think it was obvious he meant Celcius. Even so, that's the same temperature as our river right now, and I'm not enthusiastic about diving that in my drysuit!

Ha ha!! That's me . . . Master of the Obvious! :D

Coldest water I've ever had the experience of diving in was a 50 degree quarry in Racine, Wisconsin way back in 1972 . . . it was a miserable experience. I swore right then that I would NEVER do cold water diving again!

I once did a 50F dive in a wetsuit; right after that I bought a drysuit :D

My coldest dive in a drysuit was 34F on New Year's Day many years ago. I lasted just about 30 minutes until I got a case of alternobaric vertigo and that did it for me. It's just not fun when your lips are frozen with 30 seconds of getting in the water...

Thank you all for your kind comments. The lens is Zuiko 11-22 and the wetsuit is 7 mm

Just in comparison... I first visited the same site couple of times before. In 2006 I had only the Canon PS A95 in Canon housing:

In 2007 I came back with a tripod:

Heres couple more from this year (including the same tree... ;) )

Can anyone identify this?

...and Jukka. If I have learned anything about uw photography it comes from this chat. That much is sure!

In my humble opinion only about 100% improvement! :D However, I still like the black and white shot of the bow with your old camera as it has something about it.

I like that shot too.

I'd like to think I have developed quite well considering that I got my first camera 4 years ago (that A95, did'nt have a camera at all before that  ). My first dslr I got 2 years ago and I've been learning mostly by trial and error and internet. I think the previous post pretty well describes the learning curve, which by the way would never have been that good with film camera. You learn so much faster when you see the results immediately. I dont think I would even have started photography with film!

This chat has been very useful when trying to figure things out, although I felt a little awkward when I joined because I realized I was way out of my league here. It's a very professional chat with very professional people posting!

I'll never be professional (or at least the odds are low) but that is a choice I have made. I'm a bioengineer who likes photography and diving (although I dive ridiculously seldom, at least at the moment when trying to build a career, finish the new house and with small children)

Having small children puts a cramp on everything!! Worth it though!
