I am looking for a good "hunting" lens and the 17-55 looks very promising. It has received good reviews but it is quite pricey.

anyone using this lens in the water yet?

A lens for lazy diving at home when you are not working with no particular subject in mind and you are hunting for something to shoot!

Oh! I get it. Seems like an interesting lens on a DX sensor. (I'm so old school, I can't think in terms of DX lenses, I have to convert to film equivalent, just like I can't think in cm, I have to convert to inches.) So this is about a 35-80 in 35 mm equivalent. How close can it focus? Can it work like a zoom macro lens?

min focus is 14" so it will work well with a 8" dome. Macro? well maybe, but it would be great for medium to large fish, or God forbid, diver images!

Filter size 77mm. no added expense in diopters!

Bonus! And with the diopter it will focus even closer.
