Best UW picture in Finland 2009

Finnish Divers Federation keep every year a national UW competition for they members. I have tooked part of that competition several years and I have got good results in 2006 and 2007. Last year went better that I could even imagine. This pictures was selected the Best UW picture of the year 2009

For that result I am going to represent Finnish divers next November in Israel Red Sea of the Epson Red Sea competition (http://www.eilatredsea.com/). Last year there where 120 UW photoghraphers all over the world. There is very good prizes like divingtrips to excotic countrys and you can also win 10.000 USD.

A. Macroserie I got secend place with picture of the crayfish.

B. Serie of Pictures from Finland I got first place with this picture of pike and divers.

I got also second place with that picture of waterlillies.

C. Serie of Pictures from Foreign countries (every where else than Finalnd) I got third place with the picture of Lionfish from Red Sea. Unfortenatelly I dont have that picture yet on my website.

D. This serie have a different theme which changes every year. This yesr theme was: Children on the naturalwaters. There was no prices on that serie because there was not enougt pictures.

E. This series for the pictures which has taken from the surf. There has to be water at least 1/3 on the picture. I got first place with that split picture.

Just remember one thing--photography is an art and ultimately the only person you need to impress is yourself.

Well done Pasi, I always liked that picture of the waterlilies, the way the sun streams through the water really gives it something extra. So what prizes did you scoop with all the other pictures in the runner up places?

F. Serie was the Creative serie. I got second place with that picture where divers are diving inside the cave.

G. Serie was for the UW videos. On that serie is alwas les videos that other series, because there are not so many divers how are shooting UW videos. I dont know how many tooked part this year, but I send three videos, which was the maximun mount of videos for one person. Judges cave only first price which I got with this wreck diving video under ice (http://www.pasilensu.com/video/wreck_diving_under_ice_21032009_narration_and_musi c.wmv). The competition video almost the same. I just cut away copyrite text and all other texts where was my mane and the parts of narration where was my name. The reason was that all the divers how take part for that competition have to be anonymous, so that judges cant give any benefit for any certain diver.

All of my three video had narration, which I think was one of the reason of my good result of that serie. I also got recognition from judges of wide ranging and good UW videoproduction and persistent work of UW videos.

After all I decided to take part of that competition for as many pictures from Finland as possible and perhaps it was one of the reason I got so good results. I dont know how many divers took part of the competition but I know that there is many very good UW photoghraphers in Finland who dont take part of the competitions.

This year 2010 I am going to take part of the Scandinavian UW competition. It is in the end of this year, so lets see how it goes.

Thank you Jonathan! That´s true, to impress my self is the main purpos. But is is also nice to share this art with other people. Competitions are not the best way, but one way anyway.
