Just got back from taking a group down to Dominica. This was my first time down there and, unfortunately, the viz was not normal.... 20-25 ft at best! Usually one can expect 80+ in summer and 100+ during the winter months.

At least everyone had a great time... the staff and dive crew at Castle Comfort were outstanding!!

Since I don't seem to be able to post any more pics here I hope that you can all follow this link:

Other than reducing pixel count and image size, I was just too darn lazy to shop out the backscatter!!

Great set of pictures, I think 21 is my favourite (a little cropped would be good).

So what is the diving like in general and accommodation?

Cheers

Thanks!

The diving conditions were very unusual there for this time of the year... but I guess that's starting to happen a lot of places.

Normally you go there for great viz conditions (usually 80+) but between whatever was going on in that part of the ocean and coral spawning, I would say that diving in Lembeh offered better viz than some of the sites we dove while in Dominica!

It's a great place for macro... not so much for wide angle... although some of the arrowheads and banded shrimps were of mutant size. :-)

Although I didn't do any shore dives off their house reef, the people who did were amazed with all the batfish, seahorses and octopuses that they came across.

I plan on heading back there during one of these days but will try to do it during sometime during the winter since that's when they are supposed to have 100+ viz.

Also, many of their moorings had been destroyed by fishing boats and storms and I was told that the US navy was due down there to help them get all the mooring back up within a few weeks. Due to rains, we dove several of the same spots however there were a few that I really enjoyed so didn't mind going back to them again.

The island topside offers a lot of activities as well and therefore, if you have non-diver friends, this is a great place to go with them.

The last afternoon there we went on a whale watching trip and did get to see 1 female sperm whale breach the surface... during the winter months I have been told that you are able to see a lot of whales crossing through the waters there!

I didn't meet anyone there by that name... but maybe he had the week off.
