For those of you who may have a trip booked through Quasar, a prominent operator in the Galapagos, you already know about this. For those who may be thinking of booking a trip through them, think again.
Brandon Cole organized a July-August trip to Darwin and Wolf aboard the Alta, a top of the line boat operated by Quasar, last winter. The boat ran aground in June. Quasar offered the old but nice Lammer Law in its place, which would have been fine. However, in late June, Quasar announced that the Lammer Law would not be ready for service. So, with only a few weeks' notice, our trip with Quasar was canceled by Quasar.
As a result of heroic measures by Brandon, we were able to get Quasar to place our trip with another operator. Things have been hectic, but it looks like we'll get some diving in on an island-hopping trip although we won't get to Darwin and Wolf.
Some of the people who had paid for the original trip opted to get a refund from Quasar. They haven't seen any money yet. I feel like Quasar will eventually pay up, but it has not been pretty.
