Jonathan, have you ever thought of organizing a trip to the Solomon Islands? The Bilikiki Cruises trips sound pretty nice.

Anyone been there before?

I have. I am frightened by the insanely high risk of Malaria there. Mr. Doubilet hates it there, and Chris Newbert loves it. Weird!

One new adventure at a time....I'm still working on the Maldives!

I hadn't heard of the malaria risk; that's too bad. But wouldn't it be less risky if you're on the liveaboard boat most of the time?

Yes. I was told by more than one person to basically never set foot off the liveaboard unless you are on serious anti-malarials. And you pretty much should not go there at all unless you are on serious anti-malarials!

I have always wanted to go to the Soloman Islands after reading a magazine article a few years ago and would love to go if something was ever organised. :D

I didn't know that it was high Malarial but quite a few of the destinations in this part of the world are and think even if on a liveaboard it is essential to take them as better safe than sorry. I take Malarone a few times a year when travelling which is definitely the best anti-malaria tablets available and luckily has no side effects, so if you are happy to take these then the risk should be minimal.
